1984-2025:YTEC Tops Yunnan’s Manufacturing Champions, Writing a 40-Year "Specialization & Innovation" Chapter in Traction Transformers
Recently, Yunnan Transformer Electric Co., Ltd. (YTEC), a holding subsidiary of Wangbian Group (WBEC), has been awarded the prestigious title of “Yunnan Provincial Manufacturing Single Champion Enterprise” for its outstanding achievements in electrified railway traction transformers. This recognition follows rigorous evaluation, expert review, and comprehensive assessment by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Yunnan Province.

Since 1984, YTEC has been steadfastly committed to the R&D of traction transformers for electrified railways, advancing in lockstep with China’s rail development. Through continuous innovation, the company has consistently delivered cutting-edge products that meet market demands. Each technological breakthrough has rippled through the rail traction power supply sector, propelling industry-wide progress.
In 1984, YTEC successfully developed China's first-generation traction transformer, the "YNd11 connection traction transformer," marking a new chapter in China’s independent R&D of traction transformers. In 1990, China's first "three-phase to two-phase impedance-matched balanced traction transformer" specifically for traction power supply was born here. This innovative and practical achievement won the China Patent Gold Award, setting a benchmark for technological innovation in the industry. In 1996, the first "three-phase unequal-capacity traction transformer" was unveiled, earning the China Excellent Patent Award for its exceptional performance and technical advantages. Entering the 21st century, as railway speed-up gained momentum, the company responded swiftly in 2000 by launching "three-phase Vv connection traction transformers," "220kV single-phase traction transformers," and "AT autotransformer traction transformers." These products, with their superior performance, became the preferred choice for traction power supply in bullet trains and high-speed railways, strongly driving the rapid development of China's high-speed rail sector. In 2010, the "three-phase to two-phase Scott connection traction transformer" was successfully developed. From 2010 to 2024, it stood out in market competition with leading technology and reliable quality, achieving a 90% bid-winning rate. In 2017, the revolutionary "three-phase to two-phase unequal-side, unequal-capacity balanced traction transformer” was developed, reaching domestic leading technical levels. This product powers critical projects including: Beijing Daxing Airport Line (a "new milestone" in Beijing’s rail transit); Guangzhou Metro Lines 18 & 22 (demonstration projects by China Association of Metros); Xinshuo Railway’s Bazhun Line (a national "14th Five-Year Plan" green-tech showcase and the world’s first full-line continuous co-phase power supply project). These applications have showcased "YTEC's strength" in supporting China's rail transit construction.

While shining in the domestic market, YTEC has actively responded to the national "Belt and Road Initiative" and "High-Speed Rail Going Global" strategy, expanding into the global market. It has made remarkable achievements across the African continent and along the Trans-Asian Railway: The company participated in building Addis Ababa Light Rail, East Africa's first urban rail transit, lighting up hope for Africa's rail development; it assisted in constructing Egypt's first electrified railway, the 10th of Ramadan City Light Rail, upgrading local transportation infrastructure; it played a key role in the Malaysia East Coast Rail Link, the largest economic and trade project between China and Malaysia; it undertook both domestic and international sections of the China-Laos Railway, which adopts Chinese technical standards and equipment. Through these projects, the company has not only brought Chinese technology and products to the world but also gradually enhanced its global influence, making the brand of“Intelligent Manufacturing in China” shine brighter.
From its niche focus in 1984 to becoming Yunnan’s manufacturing champion, YTEC’s journey epitomizes the province’s "Specialization, Refinement, Uniqueness, and Innovation" development model. This accolade not only honors past achievements but inspires future excellence.

Looking ahead, the company will leverage the supportive policies for provincial champions, continue to increase R&D investment, and enhance its independent innovation capability and core competitiveness. With innovation as a strong engine, it will strive to break through key core technologies, providing more solid support for industrial upgrading. Aiming for the national "Manufacturing Single Champion" title, YTEC is forging ahead to make its renowned "T·YBE" brand shine brighter globally, writing new chapters of excellence for Chinese manufacturing.
